The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for Breckland was set up in 2012 and the aim is to support young people aged between 11 and 19 years old to have a voice in their community and the facilities that are provided for them. A Board of adult professionals from Health, Police, District Council, Schools, Children’s Service was then created to work in collaboration with young people who are called Young Commissioners. The Young Commissioners meet regularly and give guidance to the Board about issues that affect young people, they conduct research, visit projects to quality assure them and complete training to develop their skills.

The Board meets regularly and once the needs have been prioritised projects are commissioned to meet the need. The YAB also works with local providers to help them develop provision and network within their local area. We have so far commissioned projects to address bullying, sexual health and relationships, positive activities for young people on edge of care and pre neet, diversity project and much more.

The YAB has also established community youth forums to enable young people to influence local decision making. If you would like more information about the Breckland YAB as a professional or would like to become a young commissioner please contact –
