Youth Advisory Boards (YABs) are youth-led bodies of Young Commissioners (aged 11-19 and up to 25 with a disability) and professionals.
We work to identify and tackle issues impacting on young people. A YAB operates in each district area of Norfolk.
Young Commissioners complete a personal development programme which involves training in areas such as Equality & Diversity, Power & Democracy, and Rights. We attend residentials to develop our skills, and arrange trips to expand our knowledge. We recently visited parliament to learn more about our democracy, and attended a residential at the adventure centre PGL.
We ask young people in Breckland what matters to them through our yearly youth consultation, and then work to address these issues by campaigning for change, lobbying decision makers, and funding projects.
Last year young people in Breckland told us that mental health and wellbeing, bullying, careers advice, a lack of activities or things to do, anti-social behaviour, and sex and relationship education are the top issues affecting them and their area.
