St Martin’s Church Thompson – A Talk by Peter Bance
Friday 26 July, 6pm – 7pm
Remarkably unchanged since it was built and housing some of the finest collections of medieval and 17th century craftsmanship, it’s astonishing to think that this wonderful building was due to be closed but for the intervention of Prince Frederick Duleep Singh in 1913. His actions saved the church and he also donated St Martin’s War memorial. Peter Bance explores the extraordinary history of St Martin’s and Prince Frederick’s links to Breckles.
Light refreshments will be available.
This event is part of the Festival of Norfolk & Punjab, which takes place 15 June until 3 August across various venues in Norfolk. The Festival is a county wide celebration of the life and achievements of the Duleep Singh family and their contribution to Norfolk. The ‘Duleep Singhs’, the last Royal family of the Punjab were associated with Norfolk for almost a century.
Fees: Free event - no need to book
